“Top Gun 2” now in the works

Have you been wondering for all of these many years what “Maverick” and “Iceman” and there rest of the characters from “Top Gun” have been up to? Well, it looks like you just might get your wish to see where they are now as the sequel “Top Gun 2” has reportedly been green-lit and is under development. Already it is rumored that the star of the first film, Tom Cruise, has agreed to return.

As you may remember, at the end of the first movie “Goose” was dead but “Maverick” (Tom Cruise) had overcome the guilt he felt over his friend’s death. He then managed to shoot down a number of Russian Mig aircraft and rescue “Iceman” (Val Kilmer). All this led to raucous celebration with “Maverick” agreeing to become a Top Gun instructor. Cue the “Lost That Loving Feeling” by the Righteous Brothers and watch Tom Cruise and Kelly McGillis kiss and fade to black.

Rumors the gang will return

The initial rumors are that all of the principle characters have agreed to return for the sequel. Of course, the person who is probably missing will be Anthony Edwards who played “Goose” since he died. However, Goose’s wife was played by Meg Ryan. Also in that original film are others who have become bigger stars since such as Tim Robbins. Again, the rumors are that most of the original actors are agreeing to return.

Paramount Pictures has approached action-movie-director and producer Jerry Bruckheimer and the original director, Tony Scott, to bring the sequel to theaters. No word yet on who has agreed to return or not return behind the camera for this new production. One other rumor is that the studio has asked Christopher McQuarrie (The Usual Suspects) to write the script for the sequel.

No word on if Kenny Loggins will return to sing a new song after his “Danger Zone” became a huge hit with the first film. Is the world ready for a return of “Maverick?” The world may soon find out.
