She, known as "hiccup girl," made national headlines and even appeared on a national morning new television program as a girl with an uncontrollable case of the hiccups. Back then, in 2007, the story was that Jennifer Mee, 19, had been hiccuping for five straight weeks. Later, she claimed that a combination of cures had finally caused her hiccups to stop. Now, however, Mee has been charged with first-degree murder in Florida.

“Lured” victim to scene

Mee was charged along with two accomplices in the murder of Shannon A. Griffin. Laron Raiford, 20, and Lamont Newton, 22, were also charged in the crime. Griffin’s body was found with multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body. According to police, it seems as if Griffin was the victim of an armed robbery.

The police released a statement that said Mee “lured the victim” to the place where he was eventually shot. The statement also stated that Raiford and Newton held him up at gunpoint and took items from him. Police believe that Griffin got into a struggle with the robbers and that was when he was shot.

Florida is a state where the death penalty is still regularly enforced. Anyone charged with first-degree murder can face the death penalty as a possible sentence.
