Legendary Hollywood actor Tony Curtis dies at 85

Defiant Ones” has died at the age of 85. Tony Curtis reportedly passed away at 9:25 p.m. MDT on Wednesday night in his home in Las Vegas. The reported cause of death was a heart attack.

Curtis is also the father of screen actress Jamie Lee Curtis. It was report from her camp that revealed that her father had passed away.

Tony Curtis was a screen idol during the 1950s.

He made a number of early films that were not very good but showcased his good looks and helped gain him exposure and popularity. One of his first classic roles was in the movie “The Sweet Smell of Success” which was released in 1957. A year later he made another movie, “The Defiant Ones,” about an African-American man chained to a white man on the run from the law. That role earned him an Academy Award nomination.

One of his most famous roles put him in a film with two screen legends: Jack Lemon and Marilyn Monroe. “Some Like It Hot” was the story of two male musicians who witness a mob hit. In order to hide from the mafia they disguise themselves as women. It has been called one of the greatest comedies of all time.

Curtis fought battles with alcohol and drug abuse and was absent from films for some time. He also made some particularly bad movies during the 60s and 70s. After getting back on the road to recovery he started making a comeback with television and film appearances. He also took up painting and had become a fairly well-respected artist.
