The man, 52-year-old Daniel Rago, was arrested after he walked up behind Hester at the Rivers Casino in Des Plaines, Illinois, and slapped him on the back of the head. The charge was misdemeanor battery. He was given a fine and had to post a modest bond to be released.
According to the Chicago NBC affiliate, the incident happened last Friday night. According to witnesses Hester remained calm and professional throughout the entire incident. He was not hurt, either, in any way during the entire incident.
Exactly why Rago decided to hit Hester is unclear. He was fined $100 for the incident. He will also have to appear at a hearing in December about the incident.
Hester, in fact, had another great day on the field the following Sunday. He ran for his 16th combined kick return for a touchdown as the Bears faced off, and ultimately beat, the Minnesota Vikings. Hester is the Chicago Bears Wide Receiver and is famous for his explosive kick returns. In past years he has led the NFL in kick returns for touchdowns.
Hester and Rago were both at the relatively new casino located in a northwestern suburb near Chicago. No witnesses have come forward to say that the men had spoken to each other or not during their stay at the casino. Hester was in line at the cashier’s in order to cash out for the night when Rago walked up and hit him on the back of the head.
