The stabbing happened on Halloween night and the man was arrested at that time. However, this past Saturday night, the woman died from her wounds and it was expected that the charges would be upgraded because of that.
According to Chicago media reports, Maria Adams was repeatedly stabbed on Halloween night while in her home at 7150 Winchester, Avenue. Charged in the attack was her neighbor and friend Ledell Peoples, age 55. Adams died from her wounds this past Saturday night.
Peoples was originally charged with aggravated domestic battery when the incident happened and he was first arrested on Halloween night. Apparently an argument erupted between the two over a missing bag of Halloween candy. The fight escalated to the point that Adams reportedly threw a plate at Peoples, who sustained a cut over his eye. It was at that point that Peoples reportedly grabbed a knife and began repeatedly stabbing Adams.
At the time of the incident Peoples was arrested, charged and booked into Cook County Jail. His bond was set at $2 million.
An autopsy was scheduled for Adams on Sunday afternoon. Once an official determination of the cause of death had been made, the charged against Peoples were expected to be upgraded.
Detectives were still investigating the case further.
