New Tier high school teacher suspended and investigation pending

One of the more elite suburban schools in the Chicago area has announced that a teacher has been suspended under suspicion of misconduct and an investigation is pending.

The statement came from New Trier high school. The school is located in north suburban Winnetka, Illinois. Reportedly the investigation and suspension came form a female German teacher. The school announced the investigation in a letter sent out to parents.

According to local Chicago media reports, the letter did not say what the misconduct in question was. It did state that the teacher had been removed from her duties and that further action was pending an investigation. The allegations, according to the letter, were reported to school authorities last week, but no details had been released.

The school also announced that counselors would be on site in order to counsel any students who felt that they needed help in dealing with the issue. The school superintendent released a statement that they were taking the allegations seriously and that their primary concern was providing a safe environment for students.

New Trier High School has been in existence for over 100 years in the Chicago area. In 2007 the school graduated 98.5% of the senior class. According to information available about the school the average class size is about 1,100 students. The school reports that the spend an average of $15,000 per student every year.

The school is famous in the area for its high academic standards. It has been named in the Top Hundred and Most Successful lists of the National Association of Secondary School Principals as well as national publications. One magazine even declared New Trier as "quite possibly the best public school in America."
