The police reportedly have a suspect in custody. However, police have been willing to confirm that at least one person was dead and another injured Thursday afternoon in the northern suburb of Chicago.
According to press reports, the first calls came into the Gurnee police at about 1:16 p.m. They were told that shots had been fired at Anthony Auto Group, located at 7225 Grand Avenue. When police arrived they found the wounded men, but they found no evidence of any shooting.
Police were questioning a suspect who reportedly reached through a car window and stabbed a man on Grand Avenue. That man was seriously injured with a knife would to his neck. He was alive when the ambulance arrived, but he was later pronounced dead after being taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in nearby Libertyville.
There were also reports that another man had been injured when the vehicle containing the man who had been attacked by a knife ran into him.
The vehicle drove on after the attack and eventually came to a stop at the Athony Auto Group lot. One of the victims inside the car walked into the dealership and collapsed.
For a time Grand Avenue was closed between Hunt Club and Almond roads. Police told local businesses and residents to stay inside their homes while they searched for the suspect. Eventually, the employees at the car dealership received an automated call informing them that the suspect had been called.
