Dave faces Dual Survival debacle head-on in YouTube video

Dave Canterbury has finally addressed the ongoing Dual Survival hosting controversy, facing his fans and asking for forgiveness in a new YouTube video.

Dave Canterbury has finally addressed the public turmoil swirling around his disappearance from the popular Discovery Channel series Dual Survival.

Many people have speculated as to whether or not Dave lied on his resume, i.e. did he embellish his experience? Discovery Channel has never formally addressed the issue, which has done nothing but fuel the fires of online chats and message boards. And, many fans have angrily expressed their disappointment in the one-time reality star, others indicating hurt feelings and sadness over the situation—at least, the situation as it has been rumored to be to this point.

“I did,” Dave says honestly in a YouTube video posted on January 3, 2013, regarding whether or not he embellished some points on his resume. “I didn’t do it to hurt anyone,” he explains, “I didn’t do it to make things difficult for anyone in my family. I actually did it to, number one, better my family,” he says, “and, number two, to be able to bring the skills that I teach to a mass audience.”

Upon applying to be a part of the show and sending the resume to the Discovery Channel, Dave says that he thought it wasn’t a big deal. “There was nothing sinister in my plan,” he explains. “I was naïve to television, naïve to the entertainment industry, naïve to the way things work, and I just thought, ‘no harm, no foul.’”

Yes Harm, Yes Foul

Dave says emphatically that, yes, “Absolutely,” he regrets the embellishment. But, he goes on to add that he is not perfect—none of us are—and that he has “tried to live past it and live through it as best I can. In my school of thought, you don’t go backwards, you only go forward.”

In going forward, Dave has drawn heavily on his Christian beliefs to see him through the darker days. “I have asked forgiveness from God, from Jesus, I have asked forgiveness from my family, and now I’m asking forgiveness from my subscribers and from my friends.”

Dave Emphasizes Real-Life Experience

Fans are now wondering just how much actual outdoors/survivalist experience Dave actually has, but he indicates that he has been working in harsh, outdoors situations, on and off, since he left the military in 1988. “The reason I started the Pathfinder School to begin with was to help pass on some of the things that I have learned, and to learn along the way with the people on YouTube. That is why my motto has always been, ‘Let’s learn together,’” indicating that he learns from his YouTube subscribers every day.

It is clear that Dave is learning from his mistakes regarding the Dual Survival debacle, and is, hopefully, taking what he has learned with him as he goes forward and is putting it all into practice. Closing the video, he states, “I will strive every day for the rest of my life to be a better man, a better Christian.” Additionally, he thanks God and again apologizes for any wrongdoings he has done, and for any hurts he has caused along the way during this more-than-trying time.

Will Fans Forgive?

Many fans have been harsh, but others have been understanding of Dave's situation. Perhaps we should all ask ourselves at least one question: Who among us HASN’T embellished a resume at some point? If not for a formal work resume, shined ourselves up to make a better impression for some other important aspect of our lives? Perhaps, if we really think about his words, we will be better able to understand and maybe even forgive.

Just a thought.

Dual Survival airs on Tuesday nights on the Discovery Channel at 9/8c.

So Discovery replaced Dave because he lied? I call b.s. There is no honesty in or integrity in 90% of Discovery's scripted and staged "reality" shows so it would be pretty hypocritical to let a guy go because he exaggerated on his resume when everything they produce is extremely exaggerated or just plain fake. If I were to guess I would say that Cody wanted to be the "man" (even though he acts like the woman) and Dave's resume was a convenient way of showing him the door.

I found the new show with joe upsetting to watch because joe is more of a trained killer ,moresoe bulling his way through nature in a destructive manner rather than respecting it at least dave was willing to compromise with cody and I think they did respect one another btw codys survival teqniqniques are superlative to the soldiers and joes skills are more appropriate for battle I was looking forward to the new guy but after watching I would rather watch cody and a hunter

Just got done watching the new dual survival. Cody and Dave use to disagree but not be disagreeable. Joe and Cody show no respect for each other. If they were truly depending on each other to survive they would fail. I have learned nothing this season from this show, the old shows were informative. There is too much arguing and contempt, that this is not dual survival, it's 'Dual Circle Jerk". The chemistry is gone and mutual respect is gone. It's time to shut down the show. Elvis has left the building.

Boy was I wrong. I should have read all the facts before I open my big mouth. He did not puff. He lied several times and was apparently given a chance to retract. He is a jerk and so was I !

Its just my thought here . My opinion so to speak, that what Dave Canterbury did was enlighten us with 2 great seasons of Dual Survival . Yes.. we can all throw stones and point fingers over his means to get a host job on his show.. but the bottom line is he showed us all he knows how to use his skills to survive and to use his ability to educate others survival techniques on one show after another . His survival skills in my mind were always as good as his Partner Cody Lundin’s . There were alot of shows where Dave's abilities shined . And there were shows where Cody proved to be better suited at what was being presented for a survival situation. Thats why It's known as dual survival . I don't and never will point a finger at Dave and say what he did to get on the show was wrong . I am human .. and have done my share of stupid things in the past too. But I've learned from those errors and mistakes .. and have worked harder to be a better man because of them . And I truly think Dave did what he did for his family . But has realized he used the wrong means to get there . And I believe he learned from those mistakes and is trying to be a better man because of them . I will miss seeing him on Dual Survivor . But you'll always be a survivor in my book Dave. No Matter what .

New guy Joe STINKS! He has no Charisma, is obnoxious, and not very entertaining. He might be special forces but his TV persona is Special Ed. His personality stinks. I watched about five minutes of the new FUBAR show that I religiously tuned into and looked forward to and now can't stand it. So Dave embellished somewhat. BFD. Good luck with your ratings. This is one viewer that won't be watching anymore unless Dave comes back.. You had the perfect formula and then loused up the Mix with Jerky Turkey Joey Discovery.

Of course the show is artificial...never took it seriously. Entertainment. I liked the previous tandem better than what they have now. Now I just surf right past it...before I enjoyed the nature and the banter....now I can do without the wooden new guy.
