Ice Road Truckers: Is there 'right' or 'wrong' CB radio chatter?

Mechele R. Dillard's picture

Ice Road Truckers drivers all have their own ideas about what is proper when speaking on the CB radio.

This season, CB radio chatter—specifically, how to talk to other truckers on the radio—has been a topic batted around by Ice Road Truckers fans, due to rookie ice road driver Porkchop’s rather unusual trucker slang—unusual, at least, for the Dalton.

According to Porkchop, his variety of trucker slang—reminiscent of Smokey and the Bandit, talking about lot lizards, pickles, and something about ditches and witches, if you missed it earlier in the season—is typical for drivers in the South. Carlile trainer Tony directed Porkchop to just speak plainly, get his point across to other drivers and nothing more. And, on the Ice Road Truckers Facebook page, driver Darrell suggested that truckers should just stay off the CB unless they actually need something—no idle chatter taking up the airwaves.

Check out some of the Ice Road Truckers’ takes on CB chatter in the following video from the History Channel:

Ice Road Truckers airs on Sunday nights on the History Channel at 9/8c.
