Nintendo's latest hand held video game system will be released on Sunday, March 27 in North America and retail chains are pushing to prepare launch party events from coast to coast.

Nintendo will host their own midnight launch event at Best Buy's Union Square location in New York City. The event will include members of the media, consumers, Nintendo personnel and video game fans looking to try out and purchase the first Nintendo 3DS systems made available in North America. Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime will be on hand to greet those in attendance. Nintendo of America has also confirmed that the first 300 people to purchase a system at their event will receive a free special carrying case for the system. Nintendo's launch event at the Best Buy location is just one of many events being organized by the national electronics retail chain.

Best Buy has confirmed to HULIQ that they will be opening the doors to nine stores nationwide at midnight. To find a midnight store opening check Best Buy's website.

"The Nintendo 3DS is changing the way the game is played, and we are eager to open our doors early and be among the first to put this cutting-edge system into the hands of our customers," said Chris Homeister, senior vice president and general manager of the home entertainment group at Best Buy. "This is a device people must see to believe so we're excited to join with Nintendo and give our customers a unique 3D experience, unlike they've seen before."

The midnight events will not only be held by Best Buy. National video game chain Gamestop is also preparing for their own events in celebration of the Nintendo 3DS release. According to the retail chain 800 stores nationwide will be holding midnight openings (12:01 a.m to be precise) and another 2,400 stores will open at earlier Sunday hours starting at 9 a.m. in order to accommodate consumers looking to pick up a system.

The Nintendo 3DS is being advertised in North America with a manufacturers suggested retail price of $249.99 but some outlets are offering trade-in deals for consumer in order to obtain a Nintendo 3DS at a cheaper rate. Target announced that they are expanding the trade-in service in order to entice consumers to come to their stores for the Nintendo 3DS. “Target always aims to offer guests the hottest brands in electronics for an exceptional value,” said Nik Nayar, vice president of Merchandising for Target. “The Nintendo 3DS is one of the most anticipated new products to debut this spring and by expanding our trade-in options, we are offering Target’s guests incredible savings on all the latest gadgets.”

HULIQ recommends checking with various stores to find the best deal and to find the specific requirements for trade-in deals before heading to the store to purchase. Some chains are accepting trade-ins of the Nintendo DS and DSi to go toward the purchase of a 3DS. HULIQ also recommends seeing what video game software may be available for trade-in credit as well.
