“Stop degrading women with whom you disagree and /or don’t like by using female body terms or other gender -associated slurs.” said NOW’s communication’s director, Lisa Bennett. Bennett went on to convey that “if you think someone is an idiot, say so, but keep the sex out of it.”
The “Real Time with Bill Maher” show has a good following but this type of name calling makes him look like an idiot. Sarah Palin’s politics apparently do not jive with his, so pick the politics apart all that you want to, but don’t call someone’s mother, daughter, aunt, and sister a “T*at.”
What could Maher possibly gain from calling Sarah this very vulgar word, other than this publicity from NOW, which he had to know was coming because he does come across as knowing just about everything.
Sarah Palin’s politics might not be everybody’s cup of tea, (no pun intended) but she has been under vicious verbal attack since arriving on the Washington scene as the Republican vice president hopeful. It does not seem as if she is put at the same respect level as her male counterparts in politics. Critics seem to push the envelope when it comes to degrading Palin and her family personally.
Her politics is one thing, but the attacks on her as a human being and her family is another thing. She has endured some very hurtful things from critics and Bill Mahers female anatomy slur has to rank up there with some of the worst.
This tornado of just plain nastiness followed Sarah Palin’s daughter, Bristol Palin on to the “Dancing with the Stars” show when she was a contestant last year. The young lady did her best to do the dance routines and worked hard. She did the work just like the other contestants, but each time she won the remarks would fly. People accused her of just being there because it was her mother’s supporters calling in to vote for her. She is just a teenager who has feelings too.
Not many came out and gave Bristol credit for a job well done, they made her part of a “conspiracy” with her mother’s supporters calling in just to push her ahead in support for Sarah Palin. All her hard work to stay on the show was constantly thrown by the wayside and she was shunned by many of her mother’s critics.
Sarah Palin appears to have a sense of humor and was reported as having enjoyed the comedy skits on SNL that they did of her. She did not mind that type of humor, but to come out and call her a vulgar name because you do not agree with her politics is just wrong.
Whether Bill Maher sees the seriousness of hurting the feelings of another human being or not, he should really take a step back and put someone he cares a great deal about like his mother, sister, aunt, or even partner and think about how it would feel to hear those words about the women in his life. He wouldn’t like it.
