Heaving retaining walls that could eventually collapse

Ray Wilson's picture
Retaining Walls

This could be a disaster if enough rain occurs, and no further maintenance is performed.

Old homes were sometimes built into hills like the home and garage on this property.

Rainwater runoff causes erosion, but lack of proper drainage can contribute to significant damage where concrete block is affected (see picture). Hydro-static pressure (pressure due to large amounts of water in soil) is what causes this damage. Repairs/replacement is needed.

Repairs by licensed professionals is always recommended for such involved projects.

HI Ray, I have seen many of these leaning walls and have seen some really ugly fixes too. It would be better if it was built right at the beginning and remained good looking.
