''We would appreciate if our US partners were more engaged in strengthening their own economy instead of sorting out international relationships,'' said President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev in an interview to Al Jazeera TV Channel on Aug 26.

Everything is intertwined in the world economy, and US economic problems are felt everywhere, including Russia, Medvedev observed.

''We are all connected to each other, because a great number of economic problems stem from the US economy. The prominent Fannie Mae and Freddi Mac Companies are in a condition when declaring a default would be appropriate, which would be quite an unpleasant situation for both America and other markets,'' Medvedev stated.

The Russian President emplasized that Russia needs good relationship with the west just as the west needs good relationship with Russia. ''The economy is global. Happenings in a New York stock exchange echo in Tokyo in a day and then in Moscow,'' Medvedev said.

Speaking of the problem of Abkhazia and South Ossetia and decision taken by Russia, the head of the Russian state stressed that acts of Russia who recognized sovereignty of South Ossetia and Abkhazia had one goal: to help people living there. ''There is no other motives in our acts,'' he added. ''There is only cold deliberation in our acts. We want to help people who suffer today,'' the president said.
