Police believe that the shooting occurred during a robbery at the mall. Reportedly the woman was approached by another woman who then attempted to rob her. Before long witnesses say that a gunshot rang out and the robber was seen running away. Police have no one in custody at this time.
According to media reports, the robber told the victim to do what she was told. Exactly what happened next is unclear, but it is clear that the gun was fired and the woman was injured by the shot. She was taken to Silver Cross Hospital in nearby Joliet, Illinois.
Police and hospital officials stated that the woman’s injuries do not appear to be life threatening. Police are still looking for witnesses to the incident and for anyone who might have a description of the robbery suspect.
Initial witness reports say that the robber was a light-skinned African-American woman of medium build who held up the other woman. There was no description of any kind of vehicle that the suspect might have gotten into. There was also currently no description of what clothing the suspect might have been wearing at the time of the robbery.
