It's Real Chicken! Salad Bar Mixed Up at Whole Foods Markets

Whole Foods Markets has issued a recall due to a label mix-up with curried chicken salad and its vegan counterpart, the FDA has announced.

An apparent mix-up of labels has led to Whole Foods Market recalling bulk curried chicken salad and bulk vegan curried chick’n salad.

Some Whole Foods Markets may have sold mislabeled curried chicken salad and vegan curried chick’n salad in the cold salad bars due to the products having been sold with reversed labels. This also means that these products on the food bars would have had undeclared allergens, specifically the vegan chick’n salad contains soy and the curried chicken salad contains egg. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to soy or eggs run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products, the recall indicated.

These mislabeled products were for sale on the following 15 Whole Foods Market locations’ cold salad bars on 5/7/13 and 5/8/13:

  1. Darien, Connecticut
  2. Fairfield, Connecticut
  3. West Hartford, Connecticut
  4. Portland, Maine
  5. Framingham, Massachusetts
  6. Fresh Pond in Cambridge, Massachusetts
  7. Milburn-Union, New Jersey
  8. Montclair, New Jersey
  9. Rose City-Madison, New Jersey
  10. West Orange, New Jersey
  11. Jericho, New York
  12. Lake Grove, New York
  13. Manhasset, New York
  14. Columbus Circle in New York City
  15. Upper West Side in New York City

No illnesses have been reported to date. Signage is posted in affected Whole Foods Market stores to notify customers of this recall, and all affected product has been removed from the salad bars.

Consumers who have purchased this product from Whole Foods Market may return it to the store for a full refund. Consumers with questions should contact their local store or call 617-492-5500 between the hours of 9am and 5pm EST.
