A Minnesota high school senior got tired of asking girls to his senior prom and getting told they were already going with someone else.
So he jumped on Twitter and invited some porn stars.
Mike Stone was running out of time and, apparently, girls to ask to his senior prom, so the Tartan Senior High School student decided to use a more modern approach to asking out a date — Twitter.
But Stone didn’t just ask anybody to be his prom date, he asked out a couple of porn stars.
According to Daily Dot, unbeknownst to school officials and his parents (well, until they read or were told about the Daily Dot story or saw the tweets), Stone posted some 600 tweets in his efforts to secure a date.
By Tuesday, his invitations had borne fruit. Not one but two porn stars had accepted his invitation to the prom: Megan Piper and Emy Reyes. All they asked was that he pay their air fare to Minnesota.
So Stone settled on Megan Piper.
Of course, it was too good to be true. With only a $400 plane ticket to purchase, Stone was set until his principal called him into his office Wednesday after a woman running the community website for his hometown of Oakdale saw the Twitter posts and called the high school to clarify information on a story she was working on.
According to the Daily Dot, the high school senior was told he would not be escorting Megan Piper or any other porn star to the Tartan Senior High School prom.
“He was saying that it’s not a good thing to do that,” Stone told the Daily Dot afterward. “I said, ‘I was just doing it to see what actually happened.’
“He said I’m not in trouble but said I should get out of that stuff. He told me not to get into any more drama like this.”
The principal informed the young man’s parents. Stone, who is a special needs student, admitted that his mother was “mad” and “embarrassed” by the incident.
The North St. Paul-Maplewood-Oakdale School District issued a statement in support of the principal’s decision, citing regulations that extend the right of the school to deny persons access to school events if their admission was not in students’ best interests or if it disrupted the school operations.
During the entire run of events, Twitter was on fire for teen, many posts offering words of encouragement. Helping fan the flames was a first-page posting on Reddit.
As for Piper, who had already cleared the prom date with her boyfriend and was reported by Huffington Post to be dress shopping (not to mention being open to Stone pulling double-duty with Emy Reyes should she accept the invitation as well), the adult film star said she was disappointed at the turn of events.
“I’m not thrilled; I kind of wanted to go, but I understand,” Piper told Huffington Post in a telephone interview.
Piper also noted that she wouldn’t have known what to think had she been Stone’s parents.
